Singer, songwriter and poet and former Barlby High student, Jade Cuttle, dropped in to school this week to lead poetry workshops for students.
Whilst she was with us, Jade told us all about her forthcoming album. She is pursuing a career in music following her studies at Homerton College, Cambridge. Jade enthused “I would definitely not be where I am today if Barlby wasn’t so set on its ‘enjoy believe achieve’ mantra, aiming high with strong determination. It’s a perfect motto.”
Jade is currently focusing on building her profile in the local area playing gigs. She is working hard with the help of the BBC Music Introducing … There are many more BBC Introducing poetic-folk sessions planned for 2017 and hopefully some big festivals, so please support her if there’s an event near you! For more information you can visit Jade’s Facebook page here.
Love teaching 8L the Great War - they are just so engaged! Today we discussed 'Soldiers of Empire' using material from @DavidOlusoga's 'The World's War'. Tomorrow we continue by learning the stories of the Chinese Labourers, Ganga Singh & the Algerian forces. @Barlby_High
YR 8 reading list has been emailed to YR 8 parents today. Remember 'Reading gives us someplace to go when we have to stay where we are'. With the current weather & the lockdown why not take sometime time to escape from it all in the pages of a book. @BarlbyEng@Barlby_Highpic.twitter.com/zXaC…
Just had a fabulous lesson with Year 8 students where they presented their own research on weapons of the First World War. Some shared slide shows with the class while others composed poetry. I couldn't get them off the meeting when our time was up! Fabulous. @Barlby_High
